What is OCA lamination

2025-12-23

OCA :Optical Clear Adhesive

It is a type of solid optical transparent double-sided tape. Unlike ordinary glue (liquid adhesive), it exists as a solid film before lamination, boasting excellent optical light transmittance, adhesive strength, resistance to high temperature and humidity, and stability.

Purpose of Lamination?

1. Eliminating air layers: Traditional non-full-lamination screens (e.g., certain early mobile phones) have an air gap between The Glass cover and the display panel. This causes multiple reflections and refractions of light, leading to a "grayish" screen, glare, poor viewing angles, and difficulty seeing clearly under strong light.
2. Enhancing optical performance: The refractive index of OCA tape is very close to that of glass, allowing light to pass through almost without loss or distortion. This results in higher light transmittance, better contrast, more vivid colors, and a wider viewing angle.
3. Strengthening structure: It tightly bonds all layers into a single unit, enhancing the screen’s rigidity and impact resistance while enabling thinner device designs.
4. Improving touch feel: It provides a more solid touch experience without a "hollow" sensation.
5. Dust and water resistance: The full-lamination structure effectively prevents dust from entering the interlayer of the screen.

OCA lamination is a key precision manufacturing technology for modern consumer electronic devices to achieve outstanding display performance, slim bodies, and reliable structures. By "seamlessly bonding" all components of the screen into a single unit, it fundamentally elevates our visual experience and device quality. It can be said that OCA lamination technology is indispensable for us to enjoy such transparent, bright, and responsive screens today.
